The Real Deal Digest Issue No. 32

A bi-weekly(ish) newsletter that shares the business-y truths no one wants to talk about...
but everyone is thinking.
😬

⏲️ Read time: 4-5 min

I’m gonna be so FR* with you today (as the Gen Zers say):

Writing newsletters consistently can feel like a total b*tch.

And lately? I’ve barely been able to keep my head above water due to a temporary full-time gig I said yes to… until June.

JUNE. OMG, that feels so far away. 😩

But today, it’s 55 degrees, the sun is out, and my pret-ty, pret-ty great boyfriend (partner? man? boy? What are us non-married 40-somethings calling them these days??), scored some sweet patio furniture from Facebook Marketplace that makes it quite pleasant to sit in this gazebo we inherited…

So typing this up for you feels more like a treat than a chore at the moment. 🤗 ☀️

*FR = for real

Lately I’ve been thinking…

Why does sitting down to write this newsletter feel so hard most days… and so easy on days like this?

And how can both you and I make writing newsletters more fun… and not have to wait until a sunny day (or when the inspiration strikes) to do it?

In this issue of The Real Deal Digest:

✉️ What to write to your email list when the blank page is laughing at you

✉️ Why you're so annoyed with whatever AI spits out at you when you use it to write a newsletter

✉️ How to actually enjoy writing emails for your business (without forcing it!)

There’s something a-brewin’ in the air, Reader. Have you felt it? Noticed it?

It's the AI fatigue. And I’m not talking about the helpful stuff AI helps you with, like creating spreadsheets in 3 seconds or analyzing voice of the customer data. I’m talking about:

  • The obviously fake AI videos your aunt shares on Facebook
  • Emails from “personal brands” that feel weirdly… uh, impersonal
  • Instagram captions that say a lot… yet nothing at all 🙄 🤮

I'm reading (and quickly deleting) so much content that feels so... hollow.

And the general public is catching on to it.

Now, let’s be clear: I’m not like, anti-AI.

It does cool stuff — like save time, get pretty close to sounding like you, and spits out ideas faster than a hummingbird’s wings.

And yes, it can absolutely write for your business so you don’t have to (or if you don't want to 🤷‍♀️).

But what it can’t do is GET inside your head.

It can't *be* you.

It can’t come up with NEW ideas that have it buzzing with so much excitement that it sends 18 voice notes per day to its biz bestie.

It can’t be inspired by RAYE’s new album… and dance around the kitchen while making brunch.

It can’t cry at a bumper sticker while on its way to work.

It doesn’t have a heart that bursts with joy, or a mouth that smiles with gratitude, or a brain that meditates in the morning.

It can’t physically bring a room full of people together to share stories, encourage each other, and cheer each other on.

It can’t FEEL energy — the good or bad kind.

And it definitely could have never come up with any of that 👆 on its own...

Because it didn't LIVE the life I lived this past week. (Why yes, it's true — I did cry at a bumper sticker on Wednesday.)

AI is not alive. It can’t think for you and it can’t live YOUR LIFE for you.

You see… YOUR life, YOUR experiences, YOUR point-of-view… that’s where all the best content comes from. That's what your people WANT to hear and read about, believe it or not.

Especially right now.

Here’s something else I wholeheartedly believe MORE THAN EVER in 2026:

👉 Your best newsletters & content don’t come from a ChatGPT prompt or from just sitting down and “trying to think of something to say.”

Honestly, they don't even come from "content pillars" that your brand/messaging strategist helped you create.

The best content comes from something someone said during a conversation. Or from a book or movie you just watched. Or from an epiphany that came to you while washing your hair in the shower.

The best content comes when you just… pay attention while living your life.

But I get it — paying attention is hard these days. It certainly doesn't help that everyone wants it from you, too.

(Writing in and of itself can be hard as well.)

If you don’t mind writing, but you are:

  • Unsure of what to write to your list (or wondering if they would even care)
  • Struggling to stay consistent sending emails so you’re just like, “Why bother?” and pay $47/mo for Kit/Flow with nothing to show for it (except for a tax write-off 😬 )
  • Feeling weird about sending emails to your list because there’s this vulnerability piece to it that freaks you out a bit
  • Low-key wishing someone would just sit next to you and go, “Yep. Send that!”

Then HUZZAH! I’m actually really excited for you. 😉

Because it means you are feeling that pull for human CONNECTION in this AI-frenzy of a world we live in right now.

And that means you are a bajillion light-years ahead of all the other personal brands who are focusing on quantity over quality right now.

And guess what?! Next month, I’m launching The Inbox Writing Room, which will live inside my current Skool community, The Copy Confidence Club.

It’s a space where you actually sit down and work toward showing up in your subscribers' inboxes so you can become more visible and use your voice — all with real-time support, prompts to get the creative juices flowing, a bit o’ feedback, and some of that “just do the damn thing” energy I love bringing out in people.

And most importantly, you won’t be doing any of this in a stupid vacuum.

Because the room is going to be an ACTUAL room (okay, a Zoom room, but you know what I mean)...

A room where you can feed off the energy of other like-minded entrepreneurs like yourself… and use. your. voice.

Send. the. thing.

Share. your. passion.

Sell. your. awesome. stuff.

I’m creating this because I believe in community & collaboration so, SO much, Reader. I believe that doing things together is SO much better than doing things alone.

I believe that the more we surround ourselves with good, energetic, inspirational people, the further we can go, and the more people we can help.

I’ll be sharing more details next week… but if email marketing is something you know you want to get better at — or you simply just need the damn accountability…

Then this is for you, bb. Because we’re not meant to build alone.

In the meantime, go listen to Raye’s new album if you haven’t already. (And thank me later. 😋)

xoxo,

Rachael

P.S. Want to work together 1:1? My business is evolving and soon I will no longer be offering full copywriting services.

If you’re interested in DFY website copy or sales copy that is oozing with personality (like this sales page I wrote for Chanti Zak) and is written to ethically convert your dream clients, be sure to reach out or reply to this email before I close down my DFY copywriting services until further notice.

P.P.S. On a strict budget atm but want 1:1 access to me? Oooh, then you're in luck! Grab The Strategic Copy Coach, my CustomGPT that I dumped my entire conversion copywriter brain into so you can get feedback on your sales pages, website, emails & other content as if we were working together. (It's kind of creepy, but cool. 😂)

The Real Deal Digest Issue No. 31 A bi-weekly newsletter that shares the business-y truths no one wants to talk about but everyone is thinking. ⏲️ Read time: 5 min Until last week, I secretly thought I was better than everyone else who watches shows like The Bachelor or Love is Blind. That’s because (again, up until last week), I believed I was above all that nonsense. You know… an intellectual. A total snob, side-eyeing the viewers who “wasted” their time on such frivolous shows starring...

The Real Deal Digest Issue No. 29 January is a weird month, isn't it? It's technically just another month with 31 days (six other months manage just fine), but somehow January always feels like it lasts three years. The days are short but also feel long. If you're up north like I am, the cold and snow act like it will never leave. Actual footage of my backyard right now. 😭 And as February shows up and the "new year energy" reveals its true self, you find yourself in one of three camps: ⛺ Camp...
